Every quilt has a story; this one is no exception. UK textile artist Helen Howes developed this pattern as a tribute to her star-loving brother, Simeon, who died in 2014. She has granted permission for me to teach from her pattern. I enjoy star-themed quilts, improvisational piecing, and things a bit wonky. So, this one appealed to me.
I knew I wanted a gray background and only had on hand a piece of fine wool flannel. Since quilting from my stash is a favorite challenge, I used the gray wool and several red cotton scraps to make the stars. The pattern for the stars is more of a guideline, since there is leeway in angles and sizes of the star points. This is a fun workshop!
